| Spencerport-5 won their third consecutive UE Dual Meet title and now justify their number-one ranking in the Empire State. The Rangers (11-0) have won 51straight dual meets, but will face a strong challenge with an upcoming dual against Section Five rival Fairport (12-1) on January 14th. In the quarterfinals, Spencerport defeated Wantagh-8, (36-20), in the semifinals, they defeated Waverly-4, (43-18), and handled Section Nine power Monroe-Woodbury (19-1), 40-16, in the championship final. Spencerport head coach Bill Jacoutot, now in his 28th year, has returning state champion Paul Glover at 215, and state-ranked grapplers; Paul Morabito (145) and Enzo Zaguri at 285 pounds. The Rangers were also led by Mike Piedmonte (112), Tim Campbell (140), Joe Inzana (152) and tough Nick Baxter at 171 pounds.

At the UE Duals, held annually at Union-Endicott, four NYS champions were in the competition; the aforementioned Glover, Monroe-Woodbury's Jamie Franco (125) and Wantagh teammates, Paul Liguori (135) and John Greisheimer (152), all are seniors. In the Spencerport-Wantagh-8 dual, two-time winner Paul Liguori was bumped up two weight classes and dropped a close 1-0 decision to Paul Morabito in the 145-pound bout. The difference in the match was a second period escape by Morabito. In the Brentwood-11 vs Chenango Forks-4 match, former state runner-up Casey LaNave (CForks) edged Brentwood's Alex Gomez, 7-5, in the 125-pound class. In the third place match, Fairport-5 defeated Waverly-4, 38-25.
