|2011 SUFFOLK COUNTY DIVISION II CHAMPIONS|
Longwood captured their 5th team title and solidified their claim as the top-ranked mat squad in the Empire State. The last time the Lions won the Suffolk title was in 1997. Connetquot had a program record six All-County matmen and coach Bill Santoro and the T-Birds finished with a champion, runnerup, a 3rd, 4th, 5th and a 6th place in the grueling tournament. Defending state king Mark West (42-4) of Hauppauge sustained an injury and finished fourth in the 112-pound class. Huntington's state finalist Lou Puca (34-1, 143-32) had to settle for the bronze medal at 171 pounds.
In the Division II Tournament defending team champion Bayport-Blue Point dominated the competition and scored 359.5 points to easily outdistance Center Moriches (200), Mattituck (190), Port Jefferson (157) and Babylon with 150. The Phantoms garnered six titles including returning champions, Ryan Hake (27-5) at 125, Kyle Underwood (34-1) and OSW winner Jeff Purdy (32-4) at 135. Other winners were Justin Underwood (112), Kyle McGovern (119) and Brandin Thomas (33-2) at 140 pounds. Congratulations to coach Rich Reilly and his coaching staff...
| LONGWOOD WINS SUFFOLK CHAMPIONSHIPS

Longwood won the Suffolk County Wrestling Championships as they amassed 191 points to defeat defending team champion John Glenn (194), Huntington (110), Connetquot (109.5) and Sachem East with 85.5 points.
The Lions crowned two champions among their four finalists and garnered an impressive 10 All-County honors. Coach Mike Picozzi said,"I am very pleased with our guys and their performance, he added, "I am very relieved that it's finally over."
Winning titles for the Lions were Nicky Hall (32-2) and Pat Jennings (32-2). Hall used his bar arm to score a key third period near fall to defeat Sachem East's Sean O'Malley (40-5), 4-0, at 145 and Jennings blanked Connetquot's Nick LoBue (32-2), 5-0, to claim the 160-pound crown. Finalists Corey Rasheed (30-2) at 112 and Casey Brice (25-4) at 130, dropped overtime decisions.
Two-time Suffolk team champion John Glenn captured three individual titles: James DeKrone (40-1) at 130, Ken Meinsen (41-5) at 135 and three-time county placer Joe Giaramita (34-3) at 189 pounds. DeKrone edged Brice with a quick single leg takedown in overtime, Meinsen shutout Conner Bass (41-4), 4-0, and Giaramita defeated rival Frank Abbondanza (38-2) of Mt.Sinai, with a snap/spin takedown for an exciting 5-3 overtime victory.
Huntington was paced by defending state champion Nigel McNeil (36-0, 159-15 career), as he rolled through the bracket to claim the 119-pound class. In the final, McNeil's quickness and snap/spin takedowns led to a solid 5-1 win over Central Islip junior Giovanni Sanchez (37-4).
Connetquot had a strong showing at the county meet and were led by junior Sean McCabe (35-2) and finalist Nick LoBue (160). McCabe edged state place-winner Corey Rasheed (Longwood) with a spin behind takedown to capture his first county title. McCabe won the loaded 112-pound class and was voted the tournament's outstanding wrestler.
Sachem East had two runners-up, the aforementioned O'Malley and tough Frank Merante (23-1). Merante upset Huntington's state finalist Lou Puca (34-1), with a 6-4 overtime decision in the semifinals and dropped a close 3-2 bout to Hauppauge's Chanse Menendez (39-4) in the 171-pound final. Menendez's teammamate Adam Lepkowsky (42-2) won the 140-pound crown.
Other Suffolk winners were Nick Piccininni (37-1) of Ward Melville at 96, CJ Labate (29-1) of Commack who used a spladle to flattened Chris Powers (34-3) in 1:22 of their 103-pound match and Anthony Abidin (32-1) of Hills East. Abidin used a barrage of takedowns to defeat ESM's Maverick Passaro (43-5) at 125 pounds. Also claiming titles were state finalist and unbeaten Kyle Wade (38-0) of Islip, Warren Bosch (35-3) of Kings Park at 215 and West Babylon's Reggie Robinson (30-1) at 285 pounds. Wade scored with a second period pancake en route to a 16-4 major decision to claim the 152-pound title.
