| BRENTWOOD LEADS AFTER THE QUARTERFINALS

Brentwood, the League I Tournament Champion advanced seven wrestlers into the semifinal round and tallied 92 points at the Section XI (Suffolk County) Championships to lead Connetquot (70), Longwood (64.5), Sachem East (62) and John Glenn with 58.5 points
The Indians' Diego Ramirez (36-5) upset Rocky Point's top-seeded Tommy Dutton (45-2), 8-4, with a second period pancake takedown in the 132-pound class. Top-seeded Eric Orellana (36-2) pinned both opponents at 113 and Alexis Blanco (42-1) posted a 15-6 major decision over Copiague's Justin Boone at 138 pounds. Also advancing was Danny Murray (99), Marc Gonzalez (36-6) with a close 4-2 verdict over Brendan Dent (Conn) at 126, Carlos Toribio (39-4) who defeated Islip's Jake Freudenberg, 5-2, at 160 and Misael Romero who edged third-seded Jagger Rebozo (Hills West), 3-2, at 182 pounds.
Connetquot's defending county champion Sean McCabe (34-2) was upset by Sayville's Matt Leshinger (37-5) with a snap/spin takedown with 12 seconds remaining and eked out a 3-2 victory in their 120-pound bout. The T-Birds pushed four wrestlers into the semifinals; Steven Bulzomi (33-3) at 113, Joey Gates (33-4) with a first period pin over Dom Montemurro (KP) at 132, along with Shaun Gillen (33-2) at 160 and unbeaten and top-seeded Kenny Drew (32-0) at 220, as both recorded two falls in their respective bouts.
Longwood, the defending team champion advanced their trio of All-State grapplers, Malik Rasheed (27-6) at 138, Corey Rasheed (30-2) at 145 and Nick Hall (30-2) who posted a first period pin over Islip's Vin Provenzano in the 152-pound class. Other Lions that advanced were Anthony D'onofrio with a 7-0 decision over second-seeded Andrew Roden (KP) at 106 and Dylen Seybolt (29-3) at 170 pounds.
Other top seeded wrestlers that advanced to the semifinal round were Joe Calderone (99) of Walt Whitman who pinned Matt Stallone (SNorth) in 2:48, defending county champion Nick Piccininni (39-0) of Ward Melville who had a fall and a major decision at 106, ESM's Maverick Passaro (44-3) who defeated Sachem East's Conor O'Hara, 15-4, at 126, James Dekrone (39-3) who pinned Zach Lugo (DP) in 2:26 at 138, SWRs John Keck (43-1) at 152, Hills West teammates Tyler Grimaldi (44-1) at 160 and Joe Piccolo (37-6), who edged Islip's Joe Sabbatino, 4-3, at 170, along with Gio Santiago (34-2) of Sachem North at 182, unbeaten Zach Conner (27-0) of Islip at 195 and Smithtown West's Michael Hughes (38-1) at 285 pounds. Santiago, Conner and Hughes all posted falls in their two bouts.
Mark West (33-4) a 2010 NYS champion from Hauppauge posted a solid 9-0 verdict over Brentwood's BJ Jackson at 120 pounds. The Eagles also advanced the Mauriello brothers; Chris (35-4) who nipped ESM's Jimmy Leach, 5-4, at 113 and Nick (37-2) who posted a 13-4 major decision over Glenn's Tommy Sewell at 132, along with tough Sam Schwartzapfel (37-2) who defeated Jackson Mordente (SachEast), 9-4, at 138 pounds.
In the Division II Championships, Mattituck led with 99.5 points over two-time defending champion Bayport-Blue Point (80) and Center Moriches with 71.5 points.
