Congratulations to team champion John Glenn and coach TJ Brocking, now in his 3rd year, on their first ever Suffolk title. The Knights crowned one champion, state placer Nick Meinsen, among their four finalists and had nine place-winners. The surprise teams of the tournament were Kings Park and West Babylon, as both squads finished in the top ten. The Kingsmen garnered one title, junior Mike Soria (32-2), won the 96-pound class, his twin brother Max (34-2), also at 96, finished in third place. The team added two other placers, Jeff Snair (4th at 119) and Louis Esposito (3rd at 140). West Babylon had one runner-up and possible wild card berth with Marvin Titus-Casseus (37-2) at 189, along with other medalists, Jordan Colon (6th at 135), Frank Speights (6th at 171) and John Wilkinson who battled back for a third place finish at 285 pounds. Speaking of third place, sophomore Kyle Wade (37-2) of Islip edged Mt. Sinai's Jon Hoeg (30-7), 4-2, in a rematch at 130 pounds, to claim the bronze medal. Hoeg had nipped Wade, 5-3 OT, in their quarterfinal bout on Friday. Also Hauppauge's Jesse Marro reversed his quarterfinal setback to Edwin Perry (Riverhead), as he won four consecutive matches in the consolations, including a 2-1 verdict over Perry and finished third at 135 pounds. The Eagles registered seven All-County awards. Two wrestlers earned their third county titles, 2007 NYS champion Steven Keith (42-0, 178-15) at 119, and Rocky Point junior Stephen Dutton (42-0, 182-11) at 135. Reigning state champion Ken Collado (32-3) won the loaded 112-pound class and was voted the OSW Award. Other county champions that successfully defended their crowns were unbeaten Damon McQueen (33-0) at 103, Andy Rodriguez (39-1) at 140, Josue Mendez (40-0) at 171 and Zach Buonaiuto (39-1, 29 pins) at 189 pounds. That quartet are all returning state place-winners. Look for runner-up TJ Neidhardt (29-2), a returning state bronze medalist, to earn a wild card spot, he lost an exciting 5-3 overtime bout, tough junior Billy Coggins (41-2) in the 160-pound final...
