SACHEM EAST wins DOUBLE DUALS
Sachem East (7-1) defeated Calhoun, 45-18 and St. Anthony's, 45-19, before close to 450 hometown fans at their annual Double Duals.The Flaming Arrows were paced by the O'Malley brothers, Sean, a freshman at 112, Dan, a junior at 119, and the DiIorio brothers, senior Paul (152), sophomore Chris (160) along with John Roche at 145 pounds. In the St. Anthony's dual, the marquee match of the meet was between Grant Greene (freshman transfer from Cold Spring Harbor) and Division II state runner-up and the aforementioned Sean O'Malley at 112 pounds. Greene scored quickly with a low single and was relentless with his bar arm/half tilts and posted a solid 12-5 decision. Also winning for Sachem East were the DiIorios, as they both recorded falls along with John Roche (145). In one of the more entertaining bouts, the Friar's Rick Randazzo rallied with a key second period reversal and a near fall to edged Sachem's Steve Nguyen, 13-10, at 130 pounds. In other dual matches, St. Anthony's defeated Hills East, 45-23, and were paced by Mike Impellizeri, with a 9-0 decision at 135, Joe Calderone (140) and junior Patrick Fiorvanti (152), both secured first period pins. Calhoun toppled Hills East, 36-24, and were led by talented senior Bob Tobia, who posted two falls on the day at 215 pounds. |
