|ROCKY POINT EDGES WANTAGH ON CRITERIA|

Rocky Point edged Wantagh, 27-27, on criteria; most victories, 7-6, in a classic meet amongst the top teams on Long Island at the David Bloom Memorial Duals held at Wantagh HS. The dual featured the much anticipated bout between Wantagh's two-time state champion, Paul Liguori, and Rocky Point's two-time state place-winner, Stephen Dutton. In the third period, Dutton (7-0) scored with an escape and a single leg takedown to edge Liguori (7-1), 3-0, in the 140-pound bout. Other key victories for Rocky Point were turned in by county runner-up Matt Ross with a first period pin at 112, Jerry Ceccio who recorded a 5-1 verdict over Chris Loew at 145, and junior Billy Coggins who defeated Nassau finalist, Joe Kavanaugh, 9-4, at 171 pounds, to gave his team a 27-20 lead, with two bouts remaining in the dual. In another marquee match-up, Wantagh's defending state champion, John Greisheimer (8-0) handled county bronze medalist Anthony Volpe, as he scored with his single leg and ankle pick takedowns, to record a 9-3 victory at 152 pounds. Other Warrior winners were Joe Barbuto (103), Nick Fitzmaurice (130), Quimes Delacruz (135), Nassau finalist Matt Loew, who used an array of double leg takedowns for a 14- 5 major decision at 189, and sophomore Thomas Hall who held on a 8-6 decision at 215 pounds.

Stephen Dutton received the David Bloom OSW Award for earning three victories on the day. Other meet highlights included Brentwood's Humberto Garcia who applied a tight cross-face cradle to flattened Rocky Point's Matt Ross at 112, and returning Suffolk champion and state-ranked Josue Mendez posted a solid 11-5 decision over Rocky Point's highly-touted Billy Coggins at 171 pounds.
