Defending NCAA Champion, Jake Rosholt, from Oklahoma State holds down Hofstra's, number two ranked Chris Skretkowicz. Rosholt won this 197 pound battle 9-5 and the Cowboys won 30-10.

     Oklahoma State (19-0), the top-ranked team in the nation, defeated Hofstra (11-5), 30-10, before 2,128 fans at the Hofstra Arena. The Cowboys with their aggressive style and relentless single leg attacks were dominant and won seven of the ten bouts.The Pokes were led by three NCAA champions; Chris Pendleton(27-1) at 174, Jake Rosholt(27-1) at 197 and Iowa transfer Steve Mocco(28-0) at 285 pounds. Pendleton used a methodical single leg series to gain the advantage over Hofstra's Paul Siemon(19-7) and posted a 14-5 major decision. The marquee match of the dual was at 197 pounds, as top-ranked Jake Rosholt squared off against second-ranked Chris Skretkowicz(23-2). Rosholt scored quickly on a high crotch single leg takedown for a 2-0 lead. Skretkowicz countered a cradle attempt and reversed Pendleton to his back for a 5-4 lead, but Pendleton responded with a switch and back points for a 9-5 verdict. At 285 pounds, Mocco make quick work with Gian Villante, as he scored with a strong double and quickly applied a bar arm to secured the fall at the 2:05 mark and gave his team a comfortable 19-4 lead. Earning decisions for the Pride were Joe Rovelli(17-7), a 12-4 major decision at 184, Dave Tomasette(15-10) who eked out a 3-1 overtime decision at 125 and Charles Griffin(22-4) with a come-from-behind 7-4 victory at 133 pounds. In the last bout of the dual, NCAA runner-up Zack Esposito(27-1), faced the Pride's All-American Jon Masa(15-9) at 149 pounds. Esposito opened the scoring with an underhook throw-by single takedown but Masa hit a flip roll for a reversal to knot the score at 2-2. In the second period Esposito rolled to a scramble and reversed Masa to his back and clamped him for a stunning pin at 3:33 to give the visitors a 30-10 team victory.

MAT NOTES...
   Following the match this morning, the Cowboys were to face fourth-ranked Lehigh today at 5:00 pm. Coach John Smith, now in his 14th season as head coach, has guided his team to three NCAA titles. He has a remarkable 218-25-3 career mark during his tenure which is second behind former coach Tommy Chesbro who finished with 227 dual meet victories.
