| NATIONAL HS JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS

New York State crowned four champions en route to the NHSCA Junior Wrestling Championships at the Virginia Beach Convention Center, Virginia Beach, VA. The Empire State contingent were led by champions, Kyle Dake (130) of Lansing HS, three-time state champion Alex Ekstrom (135) of Palmyra-Macedon HS, Christian Boley (189) of Brockport HS and Ken Altarac (285) of LaSalle HS. Dake edged Kodie Silestri (NJ), 3-2, Ekstrom needed overtime to defeat Missouri's Nick Lester, 8-3, Boley posted a solid 9-4 decision over Marcus Shrewsbury (Indiana) and Altarac nipped Eloheim Palma of North Carolina, 3-2. The New York squad amassed 266.5 points to outdistance runner-up Pennsylvania (222.5), California (209), Ohio (200) and Missouri with 175.5 points, in the tournament that had 42 states entered in the three-day event.
Team New York also had threee runners-up, Wantagh's John Greisheimer at 145 and Ryan Leblanc of MEaton HS at 160, and Steven Butler of Port Jervis at 215, along with five other wrestlers finishing as All-Americans. Earning All-American honors were Steven Keith (4th at 112), teammate TJ Neidhardt (6th at 145), both of SWR, two-time state king Ian Paddock (4th at 130) of Warsaw HS, Mike Nevinger (4th at 135) of Letchworth HS and Chris Nocchi of Waverly HS, who finished fourth in the 189-pound class.
