Wantagh holds a commanding lead at the Nassau County Championships as they tallied 167.5 points and pushed four wrestlers into the Championship Finals. The Warriors are ahead of MacArthur (124) and Island Trees (100). Reigning county champion and state place-winner Dan McDevitt (36-0) posted a 15-0 tech fall at 170.Wantagh's top-seeded Kyle Quinn (106), Vinny Turano (132) and James Corbett who applied a bar arm to secure a fall at the 5:48 mark in his 182-pound bout,also advanced to the gold medal matches.  

MacArthur was paced by a trio of top-rated matmen, Chris Cataldo (40-5) at 120, Mike Marrero (152) and junior Steven Schneider (43-3) at 160. Cataldo had a 3-1 win and earned his 100th career victory. Marrero (29-5) posted a solid 6-0 decision and Schneider used a bar arm for a third period pin.

Mepham moved into third place in the team standings and were led by defending champion Louis Hernandez (46-1) who used a barrage of takedowns en route to a 17-5 major decsion over tough Chris Broccoli (26-5) of Massapequa. Top-seeded Chris Araoz (33-2) was upset by Hewlett's Owen Bachelder who applied a tight half nelson and secured a third period fall in the 126-pound bout. Top wrestlers that  advanced were Syosset's Vito Arujau, an 8th-grader, who upped his record to 42-0, at 99, Dan Choi (33--2) of Syosset at 195, unbeaten Matt Mott (33-0) of Lynbrook who tossed his opponent with a whipover/hip toss for a fall at 220 and Seaford's James O'Hagan (33-1, 81-10) at 285 pounds.
