MAT NOTES...
The Soria twin brothers from Kings Park are having an impressive showing, as Mike advanced into the championships finals and Max finished third at 96 pounds. Mike received a forfeit win over Max in the quarterfinals, and it is something they have both worked out, as a "family decision". Section Eleven has two competitors in two different weight classes, as the aforementioned Soria will meet Corey Rasheed (Longwood) in the 96-pound final, and Andy Rodriguez (40-1) of Central Islip is pitted against rival Nick Terdick (40-1) of John Glenn at 140 pounds. The gold medal match at 125 will feature state champions
Jamie Franco (41-1) and Nick Arujau (39-0). At 152 pounds, defending champion John Greisheimer (42-0) of Wantagh will face Josh Veltre (59-0) of Greece-Olympia. Gresheimer's teammate and two-time state titlist Paul Liguori (40-3, 215-15 career) battled back, and won four consecutive bouts to finished third at 135 pounds. In Division II the most anticipated bout in the tournament will see a battle of three-time champions, as Ian Paddock (53-0, 263-6) will square off with Alex Ekstrom (49-2, 225-19) at 135 pounds. Both had gruelling semifinal victories to advance to the championship bout.
