                 NEW YORK STATE HS TOURNAMENT UPDATE

     Section Eleven won the 47th annual NYS Wrestling Championships with 237.5 points over Section Two (191) and Section One with 186, at the Times Union Center in Albany. The Suffolk contingent captured 5 championships and were led by two-time state champion Steven Keith (46-0, 182-15) at 119 of SWR. The other Suffolk champs included 96 pounder Mike Soria of Kings Park, Stephen Dutton of Rocky Point at 135, Andy Rodriguez of Central Islip at 140, and Ernest James of Longwood at 215.  Three-time champion Austin Meys (45-0, 263-8) posted four first period pins at 189 and was voted the Outstanding Wrestler Award. Nassau's two returning champs Nick Arujau (40-0, 144-6) of Syosset at 125 and Wantagh's John Greisheimer (42-0, 183-14 ) at 152, both won their respective weights. In Division Two Section Five with 256 points won the team title, Section Four (251) was second and Section Six (204) was third. The purple clad contingent was led by four-time state king Alex Ekstrom (50-2, 226-19) of Palmyra Macedon. Ekstrom edged Ian Paddock of Warsaw 4-3 in the 135 pound Division Two final.
