Defending two-time NCAA team champion Penn State leads the 83rd edition of the NCAA Championships with 28 points over Oklahoma State (26) and Minnesota (23.5). The Nittany Lions were paced by their trio of NCAA titlists; David Taylor (165), Ed Ruth (184) and Quentin Wright (197), both Taylor and Ruth recorded falls.

Kyle Dake upped his record to 34-0 and posted a solid 10-0 over Ryan LeBlanc (Indiana) at 165 and teammate and reigning NCAA winner Steve Bosak recorded a 2-0 decision at 184 pounds.

     All other NCAA champions advanced to the quarterfinals; Matt McDonough (125) of Iowa, Logan Steiber (133) of Ohio State, Jordan Oliver (149) of Oklahoma State, Dustin Kilgore (41-0) of Kent State at 197 and Minnesota's Anthony Nelson in the 285-pound class.
