| Chris Messina, Hauppauge's head coach since 1982 (209-54-2 career record), was selected as the 2002 National High School Coach of the Year for New York. He led the Eagles to their 13th League title and a top five finish in the Suffolk County Championships with 4 All-County wrestlers. Dan Song became Coach Messina's 7th individual county champion and 6th All-State wrestler. Two of the county championships were earned by his son Michael in '98 and '99, who also became Hauppauge's only state champion in both of those years.
