| The Massapequa Wrestling Club along with the University of Virginia coaching staff conducted an excellent clinic for over 100 wrestlers recently at MHS. UVA head coach Steve Garland (a two-time NYS runner-up & NCAA finalist), along with assistant Scott Moore (two-time PA state place-winner & two-time NCAA All-American) demonstrated a variety of techniques that their wrestlers use on the Division I level. They focused on a series of pinning combinations that all the participants grasped and will be able to utilize in the upcoming season. MHS head coach Joe Catalanotto, along with his staff hosted the "hands-on clinic" that was aslo attended by high school coaches. Both Garland and Moore have an amicable style of instructing and all the young grapplers thoroughly enjoyed their presentations. Garland (2006 NCAA assistant Coach of the Year) and Moore (51-1) in his NCAA senior campaign, are hoping to recruit future Long Island prepped seniors, both feel the Cavaliers should be one of the top NCAA teams within the next few years.
