| LONGWOOD UPENDS BRENTWOOD By Jim & Tony Nordland Longwood (6-0) defeated Brentwood (12-2), 46-18, in a battle of League I and NYS powers. Longwood won 10 of the 15 bouts contested and were paced by unbeaten Corey Rasheed (12-0) at 112 and all-county matmen; Anthony Donofrio (96), Alonzo Lopez (119), Casey Brice (135), Nick Hall (145) and Pat Jennings at 160 pounds. Longwood freshman Corey Rasheed applied a tight cross face cradle and posted a :59 second fall over county placer Eric Orellana (14-3) and Alonzo Lopez also recorded a first period fall to give the Lions a comfortable 28-9 lead. Casey Brice (11-1) scored with a slick ankle pick en route to a 4-0 verdict over highly-regarded Humberto Garcia (15-2), Nick Hall (12-0) posted a solid 6-1 verdict and Pat Jennings (12-0) scored with a barrage of takedowns for a 20-5 tech fall at 160 pounds. The dual started at 189 pounds and Brentwood's Jared Hudson(13-3) scored with a key third period reversal for a 5-2 victory and teammate Jean Stevenson(14-3) converted a double leg takedown into a third period fall and gave the host Indians a short-lived 9-0 lead. In the marquuee match of the dual, two All-State matmen squared off at 130 pounds. Brentwood's Alex Gomez (16-0) used a quick snap spin takedown and held off previously unbeaten Malik Rasheed (11-1), for an exciting 3-2 victory. Other Indian winners were Alexis Blanco (14-1), who scored with a strong double leg takedown over tough Ed Jennings for a 6-3 win at 140, and Misael Romero (13-3), a 6-4 winner at 171 pounds. Mat Notes... Longwood is currently the top-ranked mat squad in the Empire State and Brentwood is rated 6th in the state. The dual featured three All-State performers, Corey & Malik Rasheed and Alex Gomez. Longwood will be at the Smithtown Duals and Brentwood travels to the prestigious UE duals on the weekend...
