| Sachem defeated East Meadow, 51-12, and Massapequa, 39-18, at the annual Schoolboy Classic held at Sachem HS. In the East Meadow dual, the Flaming Arrows dominated as they won ten bouts including a key victory by Mike Losito. Losito decisioned all-county Spencer Cook, 7-5, in the 140-pound class. Posting falls for Sachem in the Massapequa match were Rob Goldberg(103), all-county Chris Iorio(112), Brett Cataldi (125) and senior Karl Hanisch who secured his cradle at the 1:00 minute mark in the 160-pound bout. Key decisions were turned in by Paul Guidone(119), Mark Colasuonno, a 4-0 winner over Massapequa's Matt Cellan at 130, Mike Losito(140), Frank Funes(145) and Scott Zeffiro at 171 pounds. Standouts for the Chiefs were Adam Gottlieb( a 14-3 winner at 135), Dan Young and Chris Chimeri. Young was embroiled in a wild 15-12 match with Sachem's Pat Friedman before posting a third fall and senior Chris Chimeri turned in a second period pin over highly-touted James Sykes at 189 pounds. County runner-up Ron Lanzillotta posted a solid 6-0 decision in the 215 pound class. Massapequa dominated Patchogue-Medford, 40-15, in their opening dual and were led by all-county Dan Bonanno(112), Chris Mandato(152), Kevin Phillips(171), Chris Chimeri(189) and Ron Lanzillotta at 215. In the East Meadow-Patchogue Medford dual, the Red Raiders narrowly edged the Jets, 27-26. Pat-Med got key wins from Will DeSimone at 103 and Brian Costello. Costello defeated all-county Spencer Cook, 11-7, in an exciting and pivotal bout at 140 pounds. Pacing the Jets were defending county champions, Al Tropiano, a 19-4 winner at 119 and Matt DeLuca who posted a fall at 1:14 in the 189-pound class. |
