| EL RENO, OKLAHOMA EDGES ISLIP By Jim & Tony Nordland El Reno, Oklahoma snapped Islip's reign at the 4th annual Long Island Challenge in an exciting dual among the top mat powers in the nation, with a 29-27 victory. El Reno, winner of 20 consecutive class 4a state championships and ranked nationally, were paced by a trio of state champions; two-time titlist Brian Shelton (130), Kevin Frazier (145) and Jeff James at 189 pounds. The Bucs were led by defending county champion Tyler Mashkow (112), Paul Vaeth (140), Lance Wade, who scored a decisive takedown in the third period for a hard fought 7-5 decision at 152, returning state titlist Ryan Patrovich (160) and Ray Mills at 215 pounds. Islip had previously won the LI Challenge meet with victories over MacArthur (34-22) in 2004, Sachem (32-30) in 2003 and MacArthur (28-21) in 2002. MacArthur, winner of the past five Nassau County Championships, still has a chance to upset El Reno in the second day of the competition. El RENO 29 ISLIP 27 103- Austin Mogg (ER) dec.
