| HUNTINGTON vs ISLIP Huntington (8-0) defeated Islip (6-3), 26-19, in a League V showdown dual before 800 fans at Islip HS. The dual started at 112 pounds, where Islip's former county champion Jake Benedetto (22-2) posted a 12-3 major decision over Nigel McNeil. In perhaps the turning point of the match, Maurice Loadholt of Huntington rallied in the third period and applied a tight half nelson to secure a fall with 35 seconds remaining in their 119-pound bout. The Bucs won the next four bouts, including John LaMonica's battle with Lou Puca at 140 pounds. Puca missed a head lock in the waning seconds and LaMonica held on for an exciting 9-7 victory. The Blue Devils battled back by taking the next two matches and brought the team score to, 16-14, in favor of Islip. At 171 pounds, Joe Cannone scored with a third period front headlock for a 6-4 decsion an gave Islip a 19-14 lead with three bouts remaining in the dual. Huntington would sweep the three remaining matches, including a 10-1 major decision by Dashaun Thomas at 215 and a dominant performance by top-ranked Jose Vasquez (21-1), who used a series of tilts to record a 17-2 technical fall at 103 pounds.
