| Penn (6-4) defeated Hofstra (6-8-2), 31-12, before 862 fans at the David S. Mack Sports Complex. Penn won seven bouts and were led by Bryan Ortenzio (23-7), Zack Kemmerer (24-8), and Cesar Grajales (6-1), who is currently ranked ninth in the nation at 149 pounds. Ortenzio opened the scoring with a fireman's carry takedown and added a third period reversal for a solid 7-1 decision over Luke Vaith at 133. Kemmerer used a single/double changeover lift takedown and posted a 4-1 decision over Tyler Banks at 141. Grajales scored with an array of takedowns; a double leg in the first period and later used a slick ankle leg pick, along with a snap/spin en route to 13-3 major decision over Jeff Rotella. Hofstra's Jonny Bonilla Bowman (12-3) received a forfeit win at 157 and sophomore PJ Gillespie (25-10 ) scored with an arm drag/single leg kick out takedown in the opening period, along with a key third period escape, and held on for a 3-2 victory over Gabriel Burak (27-6) at 165. The Pride's Anthony Tortora used a pair of snap/spin takedowns to earn a hard-fought 6-2 win at 184 pounds. Other top performers for the Quakers were Mark Rappo (11-7) who scored with a series of single leg takedowns to register a major decsion over Jamie Franco at 125 and Micah Burak (16-6) who converted a reversal into a headlock to secure the fall at the 2:20 mark in the 197-pound bout. Mat Notes... Since the start of the 2001-2002 season the Pride is 110-56-5 in dual matches. This season the Pride starting lineup has suffered a rash of injuries to key wrestlers and has a depleted team in their recent dual meets. Next up for the Pride is a trip upstate for a double-dual vs Binghamton (12 noon) and Cornell (5:00 PM) on Saturday, February 6th. | Hofstra's PJ Gillespie works for his takedown against Penn's Gabriel Burak in their 165 pound match. Gillespie scored this takedown and an escape late in the match for a 3-2 victory over the 19th ranked Burak, as Hofstra dropped the dual to Penn 31-12.
