| The Massapequa gym was packed all day for the oldest holiday wrestling tournament on Long Island. It was a good cross section of some of the most competitive schools from upstate, Nassau and Suffolk. The tournament has run successfully for 39 years thanks to the efforts of Al Bevilacqua and Gary Mims, both of whom are still actively coaching top teams. Bevilacqua coaches at Minisink Valley and Mims is in his 23rd year as head coach at Massapequa. Team champion Hauppauge (207.5 points) sent six grapplers into the finals and crowned four champs to outscore runnerup Massapequa (189.5 points). Minisink Valley from upstate (Section Nine) finished third with 3 champions. Keith Mitchell, the number one ranked wrestler at 125 pounds from Freeport, was named the tournament's Outstanding Wrestler. FINALS 96- Rotella(C) d. Neiderman(F) 15-12. 103- Tropiano(EM) p.
