Long Island wrestling has won a combined total of thirty-one state sectional team titles: Suffolk (21) and Nassau with 8 championships. The 2013-2014 squads are strong favorites to claim another sectional crown. The island returns four state champions; seniors Corey Rasheed (18-0) of Longwood and Louis Hernandez (21-0) of Mepham, along with juniors Nick Piccininni (24-0) of Ward Melville and Kyle Quinn of the 2013 state's #1 team Wantagh. Four-time placer Rasheed (2-5-2-1) boasts a career mark of 218-12 and will compete at 160 pounds, two-time titlist Piccininni (24-0, 165-3 career) at 120, Hernandez (126-10 career) at 152 and Quinn (21-1) in the 113-pound class.

     Division I state finalists include freshman
Vito Arujau (23-0) of Syosset at 113 and senior Steven Schneider (21-0, 131-20 career) of MacArthur at 170. Division II runners-ups are sophomore Matteo DeVincenzo (106) of Port Jefferson and two-time silver medalist Nick Casella (102-20 career) a Locust Valley junior in the 120 weight class.

     Earning bronze medals at the 2013 state meet were Eastport-South Manor's
Travis Passaro (22-0) at 126 and James O'Hagan (23-0) a senior out of Seaford in the 285-pound class, both are currently top-ranked in the state. Other returning state placers include junior Jesse Dellavecchia (21-1) of East Islip at 120, juniors Mike D'Angelo (23-1) of Commack at 132/138 and Sam Ward (16-0) at 138 of Locust Valley. Others include state placers Fred Dunau (138) of St. Anthony's and highly-regarded Tommy Dutton (25-0) a junior from Rocky Point at 145 pounds.
