East Islip (14-1) defeated Ward Melville, 52-14, in the second round of the 3rd annual East Islip Athletic Booster Club Duals, held at East Islip HS. The Redman were led by pin winners; Dave Dellavecchia (24-4) at 112, county contender Alex Brown (24-2) at 135, Tyler Conway (27-4) at 160, Nick Arma (26-3) at 171 and senior Andrew Slawson (20-4) at 285 pounds. Other top grapplers for the host team were Mike DiLello (28-6) at 125, Vinny Chambers (24-3) and Anthony Argenti (23-7) at 152 pounds.
     Ward Melville registered two first period falls; Anthony Piccininni (119) and Ryan Sullivan who clamped on a cradle at 189 pounds. Another Patriot winner was junior Jackson Hoppey who had an exciting 7-5 overtime victory at 103 pounds.
     In earlier duals; East Islip defeated Copiague (77-3), John Glenn over Ward Melville (67-9), Massapequa upended Grand Street, (64-14) and Copiague defeated Grand Street (48-15).
     East Islip head coach, Guy Leggio, now in his 21st season, instituted the EI-ABC Duals three years ago and stated, "Where else can you get five dual meets in one day to prepare your team for the upcoming post season tournaments." He added, "Right now we have a six-team field and next year I would like to invite a few upstate teams and expand the event to eight teams."
    John Glenn (13-0) defeated Nassau power Massapequa (10-2), 57-9, at the EI Duals held at East Islip HS. The Knights were paced by defending Suffolk champion Nick Meinsen (20-0) at 140 and state finalist Nick Terdick (21-0) at 152 pounds. Meinsen scored with his fireman's carry takedowns for a solid 7-4 decision and Terdick used a repertoire of takedowns; including  a slick duck under and added a front headlock throw by, as he rolled to a 20-8 major decision. Other standouts for the Knights were Vin Punzone (19-1) at 112, Ken Meinsen (130), Matt Gannon (135), Matt Fusaro (18-2) at 145 and Jarid Cheatham who recorded a first period pin at 171 pounds.
     Massapequa's James Ondris (26-3) defeated previously unbeaten Mike Bosco (19-1) in a hard-fought battle at 160 pounds. Ondris scored on a high crotch/changeover double leg takedown midway throught their bout, and held off Bosco for a 3-2 victory. Ondris commented on his win, "I was really pumped up, kept my motion and went after him." Ondris is a solid contender for a Nassau County crown at either 152/160 pounds. Other Chiefs' winners were Joe Doria (96), and senior Alex Hoffman who scored with a series of double leg takedowns en route to a 9-3 verdict at 215 pounds.

Mat Notes...
   John Glenn is the top-ranked mat squad in the Empire State and now has a 50-match win streak. Nick Terdick (124-11 career) will take his mat skills to Hofstra University next year. The Knights have seven ranked wrestlers in Suffolk County and a trio of state caliber matmen, Meinsen,Terdick and Bosco. Following the John Glenn dual, Massapequa defeated East Islip, 44-30, Copiague (73-9) and Ward Melville (51-29).
