In the championship final top ranked John Glenn (20-0) defeated East Islip (11-2), 38-15, to capture the inaugural event at the East Islip Booster Club Duals. Many of the top mat squads competed at the duals and John Glenn advanced in their pool with wins over Copiague (57-9) and Ward Melville (43-16). Coach TJ Brocking and the Knights were led by NYS place-winner Nick Meinsen (24-0) at 125, along with all-county grapplers Tyler Sinisgalli (24-1) at 125/130, Matt Fusaro (21-1) at 130/135 and junior Nick Terdick (25-0) at 140 pounds. Other standouts include Matt Gannon (22-4) at 119, Mike Bosco (23-2) at 145 and senior Chris Carlucci (22-1) at 152 pounds.
     East Islip advanced with victories over John Glenn B (45-12) and Massapequa (31-20). Coach Guy Leggio and the Redmen have been paced by sophomore Dave Dellavecchia (20-4) at 103, Nick Ventiere (21-3) at 119,  Rob Rossi (22-2) at 125 and Alex Brown (24-2) at 135, along with Tyler Conway (21-4) at 140 and Nick Arma (22-3) at 171 pounds.
     In the EI-Massapequa dual, which started at 189 pounds, Matt Erdman reversed his opponent into an overhead cradle and registered a fall at the 1:31 mark, and was followed by teammate Jovar Ayaub's first period pin at 215 pounds. At 103, the aforementioned Dellavecchia edged highly touted Rudy Lanzillotta with a third period takedown and a 3-2 victory, and gave the host Redmen a 15-0 lead. The Chiefs battled back as Joe Harris posted a tech fall at 112 and Brendan Renda earned a close 3-1 decision at 125 pounds. In  two pivotal bouts of the dual, Rob Rossi scored with a strong double to defeat Nick Chicoire, 8-6 OT, at 130, and Alex Brown posted a 9-7 verdict over Anthony Evangelista, 9-7 at 135 pounds,and gave East Islip a comfortable 26-8 lead. Also earning victories for Massapequa were  Patrick Morgan (145), Eric Kaufman with a solid major decision at 152, Josh Maddock (160) with an exciting 4-2 overtime win and James Ondris who registered a technical fall in the 171-pound bout.

In other meets, Massapequa edged Shoreham-Wading River, 29-26. SWR's defending state champion Steven Keith recorded two falls in the 119-pound class and upped his record to 30-0. Ward Melville dominated Grand Street Campus, 66-12, and ranked wrestlers Dan Gray (112) and Nick Scotto (125) both posted victories. In the John Glenn-Ward Melville dual, two of the top 112-pounders in Suffolk met and senior Dan Gray (20-3) defeated James Dekrone, 7-3. In the same meet, tough Nick Meinsen handled Nick Scotto by posting a 14-0 major decision at 125 pounds. John Glenn has now won 38 consecutive dual meets...
