Dake & Bosak lead The Big Red
| Cornell (10-3) defeated Hofstra (5-13), 30-15, before 926 fans at the David S. Mack Sports Complex. The Big Red were paced by three-time NCAA champion Kyle Dake (21-0, 122-4 career) and defending titlist Steve Bosak (10-2), as both dominated their opponents.
Dake hit a lightning-quick fireman's carry takedown on the Pride's Nick Terdick and then slapped on a series of cross-face cradles to post a first period fall in the 165-pound bout. Bosak used a tight bar-arm stack and recorded a fall at the 2:55 mark at 184 pounds and gave his team a 18-15 lead.
In the opening bout, Cornell's Nahshon Garrett (28-3) scored with a strong double leg takedown to edge Hofstra's returning All-American Steve Bonanno (13-8), 3-1, at 125 pounds. The Pride would then reel off four consecutive wins, Jamie Franco eked out a 2-1 ot victory at 133 and earned his 12th victory on the season and potential All-American Luke Vaith (17-10) hit a duck under in the third period and blanked AA Mike Nevinger (17-7), 5-0, at 141 pounds. Redshirt sophomore Cody Ruggirello turned in an impressive performance as he applied a tight bar-arm and registered a fall in the 149-pound class. Tyler Banks (5-3) shook free from a leg ride and emerged with an exciting 5-3 overtime victory at 157, and gave the host team a 15-3 at the intermission.
Following the break, #10 Cornell captured the remaining five bouts and rallied for a 30-15 dual meet win. The Big Red was scheduled to take on Columbia University later today for a 6:00 PM match.
