| COMMACK UPENDS BAYPORT By Jim & Tony Nordland Commack defeated two-time Division II champion Bayport-Blue Point, 52-21, in one of the premier matches at the annual Commack Duals. Commack won 10 of the 15 bouts contested and were paced by county bronze medalist unbeaten freshman Mike D'Angelo (22-0), he used his patented over the head stack and recorded a stunning first period pin in the 106-pound bout.The Cougars recorded falls in the next two bouts, Brian Gully at 113 and Jimmy Spencer (16-2) with a tight cross face cradle at the 1:36 mark at 120 pounds to give the host team a comfortable 24-3 lead. Bayport battled back as sophomore Dylan McGovern used a pancake midway through the second period and clamped his opponent at 126 to bring the team score to 24-9. In the marquee match of the meet and perhaps the Commack Duals, two-time Division II champion Ryan Hake was pitted against defending Division I champion CJ Labate. Hake struck quickly with a low single leg takedown and Labate quickly reversed him to knot the score at 2-2.In the second stanza Hake reversed Labate and nearly scored back points to maintain his lead. In the third period Labate rallied with a nice Metzger (inside pancake) takedown, Hake escaped and added another takedown and held off Labate in the action-packed bout. Hake earned his 22nd victory on the season and Labate fell to 12-2. Commack reeled off five consecutive including a fall by Anthony Basile at 138, Mark Milo (145) and a solid 8-1 verdict by junior Dan Fiorvanti (20-4) at 160 pounds.
